Callus carpus: connecting the two hemispheres of the brain

What is it and main features

The corpus callosum is a white-colored brain structure that connects the two hemispheres (right and left) of human brains. This connection established by the corpus callosum is extremely important, as the two hemispheres work together.

The corpus callosum is formed by several bundles of communication neural fibers (set of axons and dendrites). It is located in the central region of the human brain, where these beams pass from side to side.

Main functions:

- Establish communication between the two cerebral hemispheres. Remembering that the right hemisphere of the brain commands the left side of the body, while the left hemisphere commands the right side of the body.

- It acts on the interpretation of information from the senses (vision and touch, for example).

- Also acts in the process of interpreting mental information.

Did you know?

- Injuries to the corpus callosum can cause various problems in body function. These problems include: difficulties in driving direction (right and left); language problems; difficulties in recognizing visual objects; Difficulties of differentiation on both sides of the body.

- Excessive consumption of alcohol can cause changes in the corpus callosum, causing the problems mentioned above.
